Government is cheating the people by talking about stern law

GOVERNMENT SHOULD ANSWER WHY IT SAVED FOUR DREADED CRIMINALS CONVICTED OF RAPE AND MURDER FROM BEING HANGED THROUGH MERCY PETITION – VIJENDER GUPTA

New Delhi, 4th January. BJP Delhi Pradesh President Shri Vijender Gupta has said that on the one hand Government is talking about stern punishment in cases of rape and murder but on the other hand former President of India Smt. Pratibha Patil commuted death punishment of four criminals in the cases of rape and murder of young girls on the recommendations of the Government through mercy petition. The people of the country want answer from the Government that what were the reasons and under what pressure it did not allow four dreaded criminals from being hanged?

Shri Gupta told that the Government is cheating the people. It is only talking about framing stern law. Had the present laws been sternly implemented then the rapists could have been hanged for the crime of rape and murder. Shri Gupta has sought answer from the Government in the aforesaid cases.

In the year 1996, Maulai Ram and Santosh of Madhya Pradesh had raped and murdered a young woman. In the year 2001, a person named Santosh had also committed such crime. Bundu Babu Rao of Karnataka had also committed crime of rape and murder of young woman in 2002. In the year 2003, a person named Bantu had also committed crime of rape and murder. All these cases went up to the Supreme Court. Treating these crimes to be the rarest of rare, the Supreme Court confirmed capital punishment to all these and ordered hang till death.

All these four convicts filed mercy petition to the President. The President commuted the death punishment of Maulai Ram and Santosh on 4th Feb, 2011, Satish on 8th May, 2012, Bandu Babu Rao and Bantu on 2nd June, 2012 to imprisonment with a condition that the prisoners shall remain in prison for the whole of the remainder of their natural lives. When the people came to know about it after the incident of gang rape in Delhi then in order to save herself the former President Smt. Pratibha Patil told that the Government of India had recommended commutation to life imprisonment in these cases and she had only approved the decision of Government.
