There is no need of BRT Corridors in Delhi - CRRI

IS THE CHIEF MINISTER CONCERNED ABOUT THE PEOPLE OF DELHI OR THE CONTRACTORS OF BRT CORRIDORS-VIJENDER GUPTA

BJP Delhi Pradesh President Shri Vijender Gupta has raised a question to the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit that when the Central Road Research Institute has submitted its report to the High Court indicating that there is no need of Bus Rapid Transport System in Delhi, then why the Chief Minister is bent upon implementing BRT system in the capital which has become headache for the people. Is not the Chief Minister concerned about the life of 2.10 crore people of Delhi? Are the Contractors of BRT Corridor more important to the Chief Minister than the life of the people of the capital?

It may be mentioned that the Delhi High Court had directed CRRI to enquire whether BRT Corridor which is the cause of traffic jam and accidents is justified in Delhi and submit its reports to the Court. CRRI submitted its report to the High Court on 16th July. In this report the institute has clearly stated that there is no need of BRT system in Delhi. Public Transport can be run smoothly in Delhi without BRT Corridors. People have to wait 7 to 20 minutes at BRT crossings. Due to this 45 percent fuel is wasted and 26 percent time of the people is lost.

Reacting to this report, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has said that even if she may have to go the Supreme Court BRT Corridors shall be constructed in Delhi. Shri Vijender Gupta has asked the Chief Minister about the reason of her insistence on BRT. Has an important technical institution like CRRI and the Hon’ble High Court no value in her eyes? Shri Gupta further said that lakhs of people face harassment daily due to the partly completed BRT Corridor from Ambedkar Nagar to Delhi Gate and the Government has framed scheme for 15 new BRT Corridors despite stiff opposition from the people of Delhi. Its implementation will cost thousands of crores and the ultimately burden will borne by the people of Delhi. Who will be responsible for so much wastage?
