Government completely fails in managing power distribution in the capital

DIFFERENT RATES BEING FIXED TO LOOT THE CONSUMERS – VIJENDER GUPTA

New Delhi, 25th June. Strongly opposing the decision of DERC to recover different rates for peak hours and non peak hours in the capital, BJP has said that Delhi Government thinks only in the interest of power companies whereas all the three private power companies are earning heavy profit in the work of power distribution.

BJP Delhi Pradesh President Shri Vijender Gupta has said that the power companies are looting the consumers in various ways. It earns profit by selling power of Delhi’s share to other states and keeps the consumers of Delhi in darkness although power is available in Delhi. Now, the power companies have proposed new method to earn more profit. Delhi Government and DERC have agreed to their new method. Shri Gupta has raised a question to the Chief Minister that when surplus power is available in Delhi then what is the justification in fixing different rates for peak and non peak hours?

Recovering two types of tariff from the same consumer indicates that Delhi Government has completely failed in managing power distribution. Government and DERC are together taking decision to hurt the consumers on the basis of methods suggested by the companies and on the basis of accounts prepared by them. Due to this there is great acrimony among the consumers of entire Delhi. In its latest decision, the DERC has said that the power companies may increase power tariff by 22 percent from the first fortnight of July. They have taken this decision on the basis of defective accounts of the company. In spite of the direction of the court, Delhi Government has not ordered for audit of the accounts of the power companies by the CAG. They should not have been allowed to increase power tariff till the CAG completes audit of the accounts of the power companies.

With effect from 1st July, 2012, now the power companies will supply power to industrial and domestic consumers at different rates. According to the decision the period between 3.00 pm to 12.00 pm will be considered peak hours and after 12.00 pm to 6.00 am will be considered as non peak hours. During this period different rates will be recovered from the consumers. From September to the month of February, the rates of power will be normal for the period between 6.00 am to 3.00 pm. Similarly from October to the month of March, the rates will be normal for the period between 6.00 am to 3.00 pm. BJP Pradesh President Shri Gupta has alleged that the Government has completely failed in managing power supply in the capital and wondered whether different rates have been fixed to loot the consumers in the new system of calculating power tariff?
