Income in Delhi increases marginally but price rise four times – Vijender Gupta

Analysing the claim of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit that per capital income in Delhi has increased by 16.70%, the BJP Delhi Pradesh President Shri Vijender Gupta has said that this claim of the Chief Minister is misleading because during the last one year prices of various commodities have increased from 30 to 50 percent in Delhi. Due to this about two lakh poor people have migrated out of Delhi who were feeling that it is difficult to live here. If one accepts the claim of Delhi Government that per capita income has increased by 16.70% even then it has no positive effect because the cost of essential commodities in the capital has increased so much that it has become difficult for the common man to maintain his family.

Shri Gupta told that 40% people in Delhi are living below poverty line. Delhi Government has increased the minimum wages from Rs. 256 per day to Rs. 270 per day. How can a common man face 50% price spiral with only 14 Rs. increase in his income? He further told that even ordinary vegetables are being sold at the rate of Rs. 80 per kg. The vegetable vendors in place of indicating the price of vegetables per kg are indicating the price of a quarter of one kg. Almost all the vegetables are being sold at the rate of Rs. 30 per ¼ kg. Grossary items, milk, edible oil, tea etc. have become very costly. The Central and Delhi Governments have not done any thing to curb price spiral. Yesterday Delhi Government had stated that they have formed teams to raid the retail vegetable sellers, but no body has seen these teams working any where in entire Delhi. Vegetable producers are being looted in the Mandi and the common man is being looted by the retailers on the streets. It seems that there is nothing like Government in Delhi.

The data issued by the Government about the rise in the income shows that the State of Goa which is ruled by BJP is at the top. In Goa per capita income is 1.92 lakh rupees whereas per capita income in Delhi is 1.75 lakh rupees. In order to curb price rise Goa Government reduced VAT on petrol resulting in making petrol cheaper by Rs.11 per litre. In contrast Delhi Government increased VAT on many commodities. Due to this prices have risen further. It is worth mentioning that the poor people in Delhi are not getting ration from PDS shops for the last 40 days. Due to this 40% people of the capital have become victim of mal-nutrition.

Shri Gupta told that in place of working in the interest of common man, Delhi Government is exploiting them. Government has already committed many bungling of thousands of crores. The latest example is of Rajiv Ratan Awas Yojna. Delhi Government had claimed that it will soon provide 18,000 pucca houses to the poor under this scheme. In a recent incident thousands of files containing the applications of lakhs of poor people under Rajiv Ratan Awas Yojna have disappeared with the connivance of Delhi Government. The Government should have recommended for CBI enquiry, but it is trying to cover up the case and save the guilty persons.
